A popular Hereford bull was awarded the title of champion at the Royal Welsh Show on Monday, July 18, 2016. The Hereford bull, Normanton 1 Laertes, has had a successful summer so far. The Royal Welsh Show title is the third of the season. The majestic bull was put forward by Time and William Livesey, father and son, from Leicester. The pair own a herd of pedigree Herefords, naming each one of the 70 cows after mushrooms that they grow for retailers. Laertes will go on to compete at the Burwarton Show in August and the National Poll Show in September this year.

Royal Highland Show Beef Championship Title in June
The two-year-old Hereford Laertes also won the overall supreme beef interbreed champion in June at the Royal Highland Show. This was the first time the duo won the Royal Highland Show championship. They came close back in 2011 when they won the reserve title.
Laertes has previously won the male champion title at Shropshire and the champion at the national calf show in 2014. Laertes is a fine bull and has won lots of praise. Championship judge Gerald Smith said that Laertes was one of the best animals he has ever seen. He also spoke of the bulls good character, something that the Hereford breed is well-known for. He also paid tribute to the stockmen and women who had worked hard preparing the animals during the 176th Royal Highland Show.
